A Matter of Black & White, 2013, Video Installation (8 min loop)
Nevet Yitzhak’s piece includes a projection of a manipulated
image, a Persian rug, on white paper hung on the wall. The
video emulates a rug in the Adaabeh style (from a city by the
same name in Iran), presented in black and white. The original
decorative elements of the rug slowly move out of the white
paper, out of their original and symmetrical frame onto the
floor, leaving behind black holes. On the junction between the
wall and the floor, the decorative motifs reorganize into a new
composition. Yitzhak uses traditional aesthetic elements from
classic Muslim art, and gently breaks the balance between
them to create a new order.
