The Israeli Black Panthers 1997, A group project led by Avi Sabag, Eyal Ben-Dov, Eitan Shuker
and School Students, Inkjet Print, 50X70 cm
In 1997 the Naggar school in Musrara presented the project
“The Israeli Black Panthers”, the result of an extensive research
that included collecting historical materials and periodical
photographs (Micha Baram and Meir Wigoder), alongside
portraits of the protest’s leaders who were invited to have
their pictures taken. The exhibition and the book focused on
the cultural and political history of the Musrara neighborhood
and Israel in general.
The portraits in the exhibition depict four of the leaders of the
protest movement: Charlie Bitton, Koko Deri, Kochavi Shamash
and Reuben Abergel.
