Tamar’s photographs are part of an extensive project she is
working on. She is a daughter to an important Rabbi and teacher
in the religious community in Israel, and she photographs with
sadness and love her closest and dearest people from a world
she is about to leave. She is allowed both an external and internal
view at what she documents or creates: The images are
political and Zionist and present the love of the country and its
landscapes, but it has a darker side - filled with hidden desires,
personal prayers, comfort, spirituality and beauty. A substantial
part of her work involves the presence of young women, with
which Tamar explores her own issues as a young woman, and
her position in regards to religion and nationality. When she
photographs girls dancing in a Synagogue, for example, or a
young woman flourishing the Israeli flag with an ecstatic expression
on her face, Tamar steps out of the familial view and
into the bigger picture of the relations between state, religion,
and discrimination against women.
